So you’ve added enough muscle to your body to where you are happy with how your muscles look, but you still have that extra layer or “padding”. Everytime you check yourself out in the mirror you see it. That little bit of excess body fat that has accumulated because of having to eat more food on your muscle building quest.

Your first thought is that you are going to have to spend hour upon hour on the treadmill torturing yourself to burn that extra layer and reveal your new physique. The good news is that you don’t have to do this! You can do high intensity interval training instead!

What Is High Intensity Interval Training?

(HIIT) High Intensity Interval Training is a little known way to burn more calories in less time. Instead of your normal cardio routine where you most likely spend an hour on the treadmill at 6 mph and burn the same amount of calories each time, this is different.

High Intensity Interval Training is all doing cardio at such a high level of intensity that your body will spend the rest of your day expending energy to recover from the workout you did during the day. This is known as excess post-exercise oxygen consumption(EPOC) and it means that you consume a greater deal more oxygen recovering from the exercise than you would have if you’d just done a steady-state workout.

What does this mean to you?

You’ll be burning up to nine times more fat while you are sitting on the couch later that night than you would have if you’d spent an hour on the treadmill at a moderate pace.

This obviously means that you’re going to need to bust your ass during these workouts. You’re going to need to push yourself outside of your normal comfort zone for these workouts. You’ll really need to challenge yourself. If you are willing to do this for your workouts and try something new, you’re going to only spend half the time you usually do on those cardio machines and you’ll get much leaner in the process.

How can it help me get abs like Ryan Reynolds?

HIIT training has a number of benefits in addition to saving you time with training.

First things first. This type of training is far superior to steady-state exercises when it comes to increasing your VO2 max, which is the maximum amount of oxygen that your body can uptake during exercise. This is going to affect all aspects of your life, including putting you in better shape for basketball with the guys.

You probably weren’t aware that during moderate-intensity exercise, you are more likely to put yourself into a catabolic state in which you will start losing muscle mass. A catabolic state is not good for your muscles and you want to avoid it at all costs. You worked hard for that muscle and want to keep it, right?

The reason for this is that you have two types of muscle fibers in your body; fast twitch and slow switch.

Slow twitch muscle fibers are good if you are training for marathons and endurance type trainings, while fast twitch muscle fibers are more compatible with short, intense bouts of exercise like weight lifting or sprinting. The fast twitch muscles will also help you with getting better at sports.

When you train with high intensity interval training, our muscle tissue has a tendency to take on the appropriate properties.

Compare the body types of a marathon runner vs a sprinter. What kind of body type are you going after? Ryan Reynolds has more of a body like a sprinter and if that’s what you are looking to achieve, HIIT is the way to do it.

The movie will be released on June 17, 2011 and looks like it’s going to be another kick ass movie with Ryan Reynolds as the lead. Ryan’s proven time and time again that he can do everything from Romantic Comedies to kicking ass in movies like Blade: Trinity to now being a super hero.

He’s also proven that he can get in great shape and stay in great shape. If you’re reading this now because you want to know what kind of workouts that Ryan does to get into shape you might be disappointed to know that he pays a personal trainer a lot of money to get him into shape. However, you may be surprised that you can get the same results as Ryan by doing the Visual Impact workout for men who want to look like Ryan Reynolds.

A friend of mine, Rusty Moore has created a course specifically for people who want to achieve that same look that Ryan Reynolds has been having lately. You know the look, the look where he is in great shape, not too bulky but muscular at the same time with a very “cut” look that the chicks are really diggin’ now.

Ryan had a very strict diet and would work out 6 days a week so that he was able to put on the muscle while losing the fat.

A common misperception that people make is that they aren’t doing workouts that are enjoyable. Ryan has said many times that he wouldn’t work out if his workouts weren’t fun. This means you’ll need to try out a bunch of different workouts in order to find something that you actually enjoy doing. This might seem hard, but when you have people like Rusty Moore teaching you different types of workouts, you can definitely weed through the boring ones and start working out doing things you enjoy and seeing some results you’ll be ecstatic about.

Ryan Reynolds has worked out extremely hard to get into shape for his part as Val in the Green Lantern and it definitely shows. If you are interested in learning a routine that you personally can do to get that same look as Ryan Reynolds right now, you should definitely check out the video below because it will teach you a lot about how you can have that same cut look.

He’s managed to get the part of Hal Jordan in the movie The Green Lantern and he’s managed to be in phenomenal shape for this movie just like he’s done with X-Men Origins, Blade: Trinity, and various other movies he’s managed to get in great shape for.

This movie looks like it’s going to be pretty good from the trailer I’ve included below. It’s the #2 trailer to be released and the 1st trailer isn’t really that appealing and makes the movie look boring. If you are in any way a fan of the Marvel movies then I’d just watch the second trailer and ignore the first trailer.

Ryan Reynolds looks like he’s going to be playing a great role as Hal Jordan. In this movie, Ryan is a fighter pilot who is quite the adventure seeker. After a hard day of work, Ryan is shown relaxing a little and all of a sudden something from another planet shows up. He rushes to see what it is and ends up getting granted a ring to become a green lantern.

This is what’s said from the official Green Lantern synopsis:

“‘Bringing the enduringly popular superhero to the big screen for the first time, “Green Lantern” stars Ryan Reynolds (“X-Men Origins: Wolverine”) in the title role, under the direction of Martin Campbell (“Casino Royale”).

In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan.

Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. But Hal is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle, and along with his determination and willpower, he has one thing no member of the Corps has ever had: humanity. With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), if Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallax…he will become the greatest Green Lantern of all.

Campbell directs “Green Lantern” from a screenplay by Greg Berlanti & Michael Green & Marc Guggenheim and Michael Goldenberg, story by Greg Berlanti & Michael Green & Marc Guggenheim, based upon characters appearing in comic books published by DC Comics.

The film also stars Blake Lively (upcoming “The Town,” TV’s “Gossip Girl”) as the spirited Carol Ferris, a test pilot and the heir apparent to her father’s aviation company; Peter Sarsgaard (“An Education,” “Flightplan”) as scientist Dr. Hector Hammond; Mark Strong (“Sherlock Holmes”) as Sinestro, Jordan’s powerful mentor in the Green Lantern Corps; Jay O. Sanders (“Revolutionary Road”) as Carl Ferris, Carol’s aircraft designer dad; Temuera Morrison (“Star Wars” Episodes II and III) as Abin Sur, Jordan’s alien predecessor; Taika Waititi (TV’s “The Flight of the Conchords”) as flight navigator Tom Kalmaku, Hal’s good friend and confidante; Academy Award® nominee Angela Bassett (“What’s Love Got to Do with It”) as enigmatic government scientist Amanda Waller; and Academy Award® winner Tim Robbins (“Mystic River”) as Hector’s influential father, Senator Robert Hammond.

The film is being produced by Donald De Line (“The Italian Job”) and Greg Berlanti (upcoming “Life As We Know It”). Herbert W. Gains and Andrew Haas serve as executive producers. Geoff Johns and Lucienne Papon are co-producing.

The film’s behind-the-scenes creative team is led by a number of Academy Award® winners, including director of photography Dion Beebe (“Memoirs of a Geisha”), production designer Grant Major (“The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King”), and costume designer Ngila Dickson (“The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King”), as well as Oscar®-nominated editor and longtime Campbell collaborator, Stuart Baird (“Gorillas in the Mist,” “Superman”). The film’s visual effects are being overseen by Oscar®-nominee Kent Houston (“The Adventures of Baron Von Munchausen,” “Casino Royale”).

Ryan Reynolds did a phenomenal job to get in shape for this movie. You’re probably curious about how he got in shape and this article is going to share with you the Ryan Reynolds Wolverine Workout.

Everyone who knows who Ryan Reynolds is and his history of acting realizes how excellent of a choice he is for the sarcastic and intelligent Alec, aka Deadpool, and how this choice was right on the money. Reynold’s definitely didn’t disappoint his fans in the latest Blade:Trinity movie in which he really showed everyone how he was able to transition from acting like a goofball to showing an incredible physique and sporting a ripped 6 pack.

Ryan’s been putting in a ton of time in order to get in shape for these movies and it truly shows. So what exactly di he do to get ripped?

Ryan Reynolds Workout for Blade

For his role in Blade: Trinity, Ryan gained 20 pounds of muscle and lost 33% of his body fat. How crazy is that? At some points throughout the filming he was said to be at 3% body fat. The cool thing for you is that your abs will become truly visible at about 8% body fat.

Who was Ryan Reynolds Trainer for X-Men?

Ryan decided to go with Strom again, as he had worked with tons of people in Hollywood get in shape. He’s worked with everyone from Jessica Biel, Scarlett Johansson, J-Lo, and even Britney Spears for her VMA appearance. This isn’t about them though, this is about Ryan Reynolds and him getting ripped for his X-Men Origins role.

Ryan Reynolds Workout Secrets

Ryan Reynolds’ trainer believes in “functional fitness” which combines some traditional weight training exercises that you’ve probably done before, with a lot of core and stability exercises. For this particular workout program, he had Ryan Reynolds train only one body part per day over a six-day period. Reynolds is an Ectomorph by body frame which means its difficult to put on muscle mass. This didn’t turn him off though, as you can now see.

That’s exactly the reason that Strom had Reynolds train one body part per day. The rep range was kept low, at only 6 to 8 reps per set. Reynolds would push himself on each and every workout, using as much weight as possible. He was committed to putting on the muscle mass so lifting heavy weights became a part of who he was.

How about the diet Ryan Reynolds used?

Here is a sample the diet that Ryan Reynolds was on during the filming of X-Men Origins Wolverine.

* Breakfast: 2 eggs a slice of avocado and 1 cup of oatmeal
* Snacks: a protein Bar
* Lunch: tuna wrap or chicken salad
* Snacks: a whey protein shake, protein bar and an apple
* Dinner: broiled fish or chicken, brown rice and vegetables
* Snacks: protein shake

Ryan needed to put on some muscle mass, which meant he had to train heavy lifting heavy weights and eat 5 to 6 times per day. The diet he followed was at a 40-40-20 which meant he’d eat 40% protein, 40% carbohydrates and 20% fats. Getting the proper fats may be difficult, but Strom is a genius with his workouts and diets and had Reynolds taking flaxseed oil in order to get the proper type of fats into his body.

Would you like to add 15 to 20 pounds of hard muscle to your body like Ryan Reynolds did?

You seem to just be spinning your wheels and not really seeing any improvements. This happens when you are over-training. Don’t worry, it has happened or will happen to just about everyone who’s ever picked up a set of weights. Over-training can lead to serious injury, chronic fatigue and even can be the reason for muscle loss.

Overtraining is most common among athletes, particularly with bodybuilders. The reason for this is simple, they figure that training as much as possible is going to give them massive muscle gains.

This couldn’t be any further from the truth however…

Training too much, or at too high of an intensity will lead to over-training.

Now this doesn’t mean you don’t have to put plenty of effort in to see some decent results… Whether you are a bodybuilder, athlete, or just someone that wants to add some additional mass to your frame, you need to train hard and be consistent-that’s a given. In order to get the most out of your genetics, you have to progressively overload the muscles by increasing the weight and / or intensity of each weight training workout.

The problem is however, that many of us increase the intensity of our workouts or get insufficient amounts of rest, or even worse, a combination of both. The trick is finding the right balance between workout volume and intensity, and rest and recovery. And that is exactly what I’ll cover in this article.
The Effects of Over-Training on Bodybuilders

First, let’s take a look at some of the effects of over-training and how one can prevent over-training from happening in the first place.

The Effects of Over-training on the Nervous System

Over-training effects both the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems in the following negative ways:

Higher resting heart rate

Weak appetite

High blood pressure

Weight loss

Trouble sleeping

Increased metabolic rate

Irritability

Early onset of fatigue

If you are experiencing more than one of the symptoms outlined above, you may be in a state of over-training, and should evaluate your routine as soon as possible.

The Effects of Over-training on Hormone Levels

Many studies have indicated that over-training negatively effects the levels of hormones, as well as the hormone response in the body. Since hormones play such an important role in the muscle building process, this can have a detrimental effect on your training progress.

Over-training has been show to:

Decrease testosterone levels

Decrease thyroxine levels

Increase cortisol levels

The increase in cortisol levels along with the decrease in testosterone levels is a deadly combination, since this leads to protein tissue break down. This will ultimately lead to a loss of muscle tissue.

The Effects of Over-training on the Immune System

perhaps one of the most alarming repercussions of over-training is it’s negative impact on the immune system-you’re bodies first defense against harmful viruses and bacteria.

Over-training can drastically decrease the levels of antibodies and lymphocytes in your body, making you much more susceptible to illness. Simply put, this means that if you are in a state of over-training, you are much more likely to get sick. Since you will have to skip workouts while you are sick, your muscle building progress will slow considerably.

The Effects of Over-training on the Metabolic System

Here is a list of how over-training can effect the metabolic system. These symptoms are the ones that are most commonly discussed, and are ones we can’t ignore:

Micro tears in the muscle

Chronically depleted glycogen levels

Slow, weak muscle contractions

Depleted creatine phosphate stores

Excessive accumulation of lactic acid

Extreme DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness)

Tendon and connective tissue damage

So you must get the point by now… Over-training effects the entire body, and can seriously impact the results of your muscle building program.

Now let’s take a look at the different types of over-training, and what we can do to prevent it.

Is it Worse to Over-Train With Cardio or Weight Training?

Any form of over-training is a bad thing, however, I’ve personally experienced both types of over-training and can honestly say that over-training in the weight room is much worse, and much more prevalent than over-training through cardiovascular training.

Here are some of the reasons why:

In order to grow, muscles must fully recover from their last workout, every workout. If you are over-training and work the muscles before they have fully recovered, you will break down the muscle tissue before it has rebuilt-making it impossible to build muscle!

Over-training with weights makes you more susceptible to nervous systems hormone and immune system issues, which all pose serious health risks.

It can lead beginners down the wrong path, perhaps wasting money on unnecessary supplements, or even worse, steroids.

I personally believe that only competitive athletes such as swimmers, runners and bikers run a serious risk of reaching a state of cardiovascular over-training, since there are often training for two or more hours daily.

The bottom line is that it is much easier for the average person to over-train while weight training than while cardiovascular training, and I think the effects can be more serious.

How do I Determine if I’m Over-training?

Determining if you’re currently over-training is fairly simple. If you’re in tune with your body, you can often see the signs of over-training before they get serious. If you are losing interest in workouts, are having trouble sleeping, and feel weak and irritable, you may be in a state of over-training and should take a week or more off.

If you are experiencing two or more of the symptoms outlined earlier in the article, this should raise a red flag.

Another variable you can use to determine if you are over-training is by tracking the performance of your workouts.

Has your physical performance improved compared to your last workout?

For example, let’s say last workout you were able to perform 8 pull-ups using your body-weight, but were only able to perform 6 pull-ups the following week. This means that you have not “out done” your previous workout, have not fully recovered, and therefore are likely over-training. You nave to re-asses your program and make modifications so that you see progress every workout.

How Can I Prevent Over-training?

n order to avoid over-training, you need to take a multi-facited approach. Determining the correct training volume and intensity, eating the right foods, and getting the right amount of rest and recovery must all be taken in to consideration. Now let’s take a look at each of those factors in more detail.

Correct Training Volume

Determining the correct training volume can be difficult, especially when you are first starting out. You have to determine how much weight to lift, how many repetitions and set to perform for every single workout.

You need to use your own judgment in this case, based on your recovery ability and your recovery methods. Remember that the goal is that you improve every single workout, and if this isn’t happening, you have to decrease the intensity of your workouts.

This is where many people go wrong though. You begin your workout and realize that you have not fully recovered. You can either continue to train at a lower intensity than the previous workout, or skip the workout entirely.

As hard as it may be, skipping the workout is the right way to go. Just turn around and go home! Your body is telling you that it needs more rest, and you must listen to it!

There is no point in training at a lower intensity, further breaking down the muscle tissue. By doing this you will increase your risk of injury, and make it harder for your body to fully recovery for your next training session.

Proper Nutrition

Your diet plays a huge role in your muscle building program. It helps regulate hormone levels, provides energy, and provides the raw building blocks that are used to create new tissue.

Here are some dietary recommendations that will limit the chance of over-training:

Do not skip breakfast. This is one of the most important meals of the day. Skipping breakfast is very catabolic, and can promote muscle loss.

Never let yourself get hungry. If you’re trying to build muscle mass, you have to constantly feed your body quality foods so that it never has the chance catabolize muscle tissue.

Unless you are trying to build muscle and lose fat, make sure you have eaten prior to your training session and are not hungry.

Have the largest meal of the day within an hour after your workout. Do this every single workout!

Consider taking proven supplements like creatine, and antioxidants to increase performance and fight free radicals.

Eat every 2-3 hours to ensure that your body remains in an anabolic state.

Keep glycogen levels at full capacity to inhibit muscle tissue breakdown.

Rest & Recovery

Rest and recovery is essential when it comes to avoiding over-training. Make sure that you get at least 7 hours of sleep each night, and that you are on a consistent schedule. As for recovery time, it’s important that you have days off between weight training workouts. Try to have one rest day between weight training workouts, and never train the same muscle groups on consecutive days.

Ryan Reynold’s philosophy can be summed up in one theme:

Goals versus expectations.

Ryan has plenty of goals, both profession and personal. Although he has goals, he tries to avoid expectations. His reasoning for this is very intelligent, you can’t reasonably assume that something is going to happen without putting in the work. Ryan said that “When you have expectations, you are setting yourself up for disappointment.”

If you expect something to happen, without putting in the work it simply won’t happen. Think about when you were in grade school or in college for a minute now. When it came to exam time, you probably found out if you were prepared or not when the grade came back. If you had a goal of achieving a 90 on a test, you probably spent time studying and learning the material so that you could earn a 90 or above. If you simply expected to pass without studying and didn’t put any work in, it may work sometimes, but would often turn out better if you took the time to have a goal and take the time to work towards that goal.

The same thing is true in working out. If you just expect that you’ll have the six pack you’ve always dreamed about without actually taking the time to workout and to eat healthy, it simply won’t happen. You need to set a goal and to follow the steps it takes to reach that goal.

You might not be starring in films and marrying Scarlett Johansson, but you can definitely benefit from Ryan Reynold’s approach to life. Start off by planning for freedom. According to Reynold’s, real freedom comes from preparation- advice that applies to any line of work. When Ryan takes the time to truly figure out the character he’s playing, a real sense of liberation follows: “I’m at ease and I’m ready for variables. I’m ready to play and ready to have fun with the scenes.”

Ryan isn’t lying when he talks about this either. His boss told him he needed to gain 20 pounds of muscle and lose a third of his body fat, and he did it. What would you say if your boss told you that you had to do that?

Here’s a few tips on what Ryan Reynold’s did to get in shape for Blade: Trinity, which also led to his cover shoot on Men’s Health magazine.

Eat More

“I attribute my results mostly to nutrition,” Reynolds says. Ryan would eat every 2 to 3 hours to burn more fat. “Your body doesn’t need to store fat for energy if you’re feeding it all the time,” explains Bobby Strom, Reynolds’s Los Angeles-based trainer.

Go For Bulk

Reynolds doesn’t have a personal chef, so he cooks his meals in advance. Just think, you can do this as well! For instance, he’ll make a large supply of Irish steel-cut oatmeal and freeze it. That way, the most important meal of the day requires the least work and is already ready for you. You can incorporate this into your diet starting this week if you choose to.

Carve With Carbs

“Never do any of that carve-starve crap,” Reynolds says. Instead, watch the clock. He ate most of his carbohydrates post-workout, and none after 8 p.m.

Think About Yourself

“If you hate your workout, you’re not going to do it,” explains Reynolds. Take the time to figure out which exercises you enjoy doing and do those. If you like doing abs before your workout instead of after, do it that way. Do what is enjoyable for you so that exercise becomes more enjoyable for you.

Ryan Reynolds is an actor who has starred in Blade Trinity and Wolverine. He got an incredible shape while training for the movie “Blade Trinity.” A good thing about Ryan is that he maintains a lean, muscular body in all his recent roles with six pack abs. He is one of Hollywood’s most talked about bodies. Ryan explained how he sculpts his six-pack and put on some serious mass in the five months before the movie shooting started.

In the movie Blade Trinity Ryan Reynolds Workout was intense. He spent 2-3 hours in a day and 6 days in a week in his work out which reduced his body fat from 10% to 5% while 20 lbs was added to his muscle. He’s been doing split routine with one body part per day: shoulders, chest, back, legs, and arms mixed in. He was also performing a number of abs training and started his workouts with sit ups and leg rises with weights.

Ryan had gain 20 solid pounds of muscle however shed 11% to just 3% of his body fat. How did he do it and where his workout secrets? If he was on a diet what kind of diet regimen did he follow?

According to Ryan he only ate something every 2 to 3 hours never to get hungry. He avoided overeating at any meal. He drinks tons of water throughout the day. His breakfast is only 1/2 cup of egg whites and 2 eggs; just oatmeal with no sugars then a protein bar after 2 t0 3 hours. For lunch, he only ate fish or chicken with salad and vegetables. Then an optimum whey protein shakes throughout the night and before bedtime. His diet allowed him to add muscle without adding fat.

Ryan Reynolds Workout was just about 2 to 3 hours in a day. It started with sit ups then heavy weights for muscle bulk. Weight training involved a variety of exercises too many to mention at reps of about 8 to 12 for 6 days in a week.

Lower abs is the hardest muscle to develop. Ryan did this by using one of the exercise balls between his legs, lifting up and down and used his arms to anchor himself. He also put a 15 pound dumb-bell between his feet and do leg raises while lying on the ground.

He went from 11% body fat to 3% body fat. How did he do it? What are his “secrets” and what kind of a diet was he on that allowed him to put on muscle while losing fat?

In Ryan Reynold’s own words he explains his tips for sculpting his six-pack, putting on some serious mass and getting ripped in the five months before shooting…

Ryan Reynolds Workout & Diet

“This question has come up a lot, so I’m gonna give you the detailed version. The first time I lifted a barbell for BLADE was the end of July, 2003. I had to be ready to go by mid December, however when we shot the scenes in question it was January, 2004, so, basically, 5 months.”

DIET: I ate something pretty much every 2-3 hours, never “stuffing” myself, but never letting myself get hungry. Tons of water throughout the day… BREAKFAST: 1/2 cup egg whites and 2 eggs. Oatmeal – no sugar, a *protein bar 2-3 hours later. (the best oatmeal is this stuff called McCann’s Steel Cut Oatmeal. It takes about a half hour to cook, but you just make enough to last a couple weeks. add apple sauce and cinnamon to improve the taste.)

LUNCH: chicken and veggies/brown rice. a *protein bar 2-3 hours later.

DINNER: fish or chicken with salad and vegetables. balsamic vinegar for dressing. couple more ** Optimum Whey Protein Shakes throughout the night and right before bed.

TYPICAL DIET:

Breakfast: 2 eggs, some “good” fat like a spoon of almond butter or slice of avocado, and 1 cup of oatmeal with applesauce
